New to Church?
We’re delighted to introduce our church to you through the pages of the website. Even better, we’d love to meet you in person! Here’s a little bit about who we are and what we’re about. And also what to expect if you come to see us at a Sunday service. If you have any other questions at all, please do get in touch.
Why are we here?
St Margaret’s is part of the Church of England. We are the local parish church for residents of Chipstead, Mugswell, Hooley, and Netherne on the Hill. The parish system means that everyone in England has a local church which is ‘theirs’. We consider it an honour and a privilege to serve our local area in this way.
We gather as a community to know and share God’s transforming love with each other, with our local community and with the wider world. We worship God together on Sundays and at other times, we try to serve our community through projects such as a winter night shelter and Maggie’s song (amongst others) and also through pastoral care. It is also our responsibility and our joy to celebrate special services with people at key moments in life.
What do we believe?
All over the world, Christians believe that there is a God, and that, two thousand years ago, God was seen in a new and deeper way in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, the Christ. Click here for some more detailed information.
What happens on a Sunday?
If you come to visit us for the first time on a Sunday, you will (*usually) be very welcome indeed. Information about each of our services is here. We recognise that coming to church for the first time can be a little bit daunting. Please don’t worry! It doesn’t matter how you dress or stand or sit. And if you can’t stay for the whole service, come when you can and go when you need to. It is a real delight for us to have visitors to the church – we look forward to having your company.
For a first visit, we would suggest you choose our 9am or 10.45 services which means you can come for coffee at 10.15am and get to know us a little bit better. If you have children, there are crèche facilities and activities for children at the 10.45 service - one of the people standing at the door of the church will be able to show you where these are.
If you have any other questions about coming to visit, please contact us.

*During 2020 we are posting online services on our Media, Listen again, page. When restrictions permit, we have a 40 minute live service in the Church building at 10am and concurrently children's groups in the Orchard.
